It's maddening how many people still cling to the Broken Window Fallacy! Military spending only creates jobs at the expense of more--and more socially desirable--jobs in the civilian economy. Those resources have to come from somewhere, people!

Imperial overreach will lead to the collapse of the United States, as it led to the collapse of Rome, Britain and the Soviets. Toynbee and Burke's immortal words still ring true:

"The Roman Empire produced few exportable goods. Material innovation, whether through entrepreneurialism or technological advancement, all but ended long before the final dissolution of the Empire. Meanwhile, the costs of military defense and the pomp of Emperors continued. Financial needs continued to increase, but the means of meeting them steadily eroded. [ . . . ] The decrepit social order offered so little to its subjects that many saw the barbarian invasion as liberation from onerous obligations to the ruling class."
~Arnold J. U-...Your research is sloppy on at least one point. U-3 Unemployment figures certainly do understate unemployment but the "birth-death model" has nothing to do with that. The BLS monthly Current Population Survey consists of two data sets: Household data and Establishment data. The U-3 and U-6 numbers are based on the household data. The "birth-death model" is part of the Establishment data. The two have nothing to do with each other.

The BLS does understate unemployment. It would certainly be much simpler to say that the BLS admits that its numbers are bad and call it a day, but it would not be honest. The BLS understates unemployment by not including marginally attached workers, or "those who currently are neither working nor looking for work but indicate that they want and are available for a job and have looked for work sometime in the past 12 months." These marginally attached workers are included in U-5 unemployment figures. U-6 unemployment figures also capture these marginally attached workers as well as those who have settled for part-time work because they cannot find full-time work. One important note is that marginally attached workers who have not looked for a job in over 12 months are not included anywhere in BLS statistics.Sabanesehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11867893476620380092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53246864840716464.post-15785864249779105822011-06-04T05:42:50.317-07:002011-06-04T05:42:50.317-07:00So, the GOP House was "swept in" on prom...So, the GOP House was "swept in" on promises of jobs and the economy...
