Weren't they drilling to find and retrieve oil?

If the testing could turn this into a volcano which is unstoppable why would you do that?

If methane gas is heavier than air and all those bubbles we see gushing out of the sea bed are methane gas then that gas must be floating around in huge invisable clouds ... where is it? Rather than load the well head up with tremendous pressure, a self seating hydraulic claw adapter would make it possible to install a two way valve. Then a standard riser could be attached while flow continued until all the flow could be diverted to the riser system and captured 100%. This means the well could be bled down to a safe level in a couple of years before attempting the also risky bottom kill procedure. BP nixed this approach in the beginning even tho it could have been done in a few days.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03645779138079575087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53246864840716464.post-54422401084821158172010-07-15T07:23:16.151-07:002010-07-15T07:23:16.151-07:00I've been in the oil industry for 27 years, in...I've been in the oil industry for 27 years, including 10 years as a Drilling Supervisor on drilling rigs, some of them deepwater rigs like the Deepwater Horizon. When I initially saw the video of the rig burning my guess was that the flow rate was between 250,000 and 500,000bbls/day of oil (with associated gas) to create an inferno of that magnitude.

We have observed the estimates of the flow rate from BP increase as oil began to be recovered. Obviously it is hard to hide the truth when oil is recovered to the surface and it's still leaking at the seabed.

With the capability that BP now has to recover all the oil it makes no sense to do anything other than continue with the relief well and recover all the oil to the surface. Doing the integrity test now is taking a big risk of casing or formation failure.

Although it would seem illogical to undertake this test at this stage, from BP's point of view there is definitely logic in doing it. If the test is successful we will never know exactly what the flow rate of oil and gas was leaking from the well. The only way we will know exactly what the flow rate is, is if all the flow is recovered to ships at the surface.

As the leak rate is likely to be far higher than the latest BP estimates, if the truth is known the potential damages they are facing will increase significantly.robert stonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04637935795119979827noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53246864840716464.post-66293071515746895172010-07-14T20:32:13.783-07:002010-07-14T20:32:13.783-07:00It appears the well has partially blown out and th...It appears the well has partially blown out and this may mean that more drilling mud would be needed to kill the wells (note the plural). Perhaps the engineers are calculating how much mud would be needed and whether or not the relief well can deliver it.Jalaluddinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01408865702751393515noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53246864840716464.post-78060266212441144282010-07-14T18:19:51.799-07:002010-07-14T18:19:51.799-07:00Note that Hofmeister even said, "like a volca...Note that Hofmeister even said, "like a volcano" when making his points. This must have been intentional, perhaps rendering some credibility to other radical "volcano" theories that suggest that BP is playing with something even more catastrophic than what main stream news or the government is telling us.blueridgewvhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03747761500422994099noreply@blogger.com
