And right now there's an obvious shortage of demand.

www.moslereconomics.comWarren Moslerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10482768786644478587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53246864840716464.post-17880738614702615512009-12-05T17:15:17.743-08:002009-12-05T17:15:17.743-08:00MMT'er Warren Mosler (announced 2012 president...MMT'er Warren Mosler (announced 2012 presidential candidate) is also advocating a payroll tax holiday. He observes that it would not impact SS or Medicare because the government does not fund its programs - social, military, etc. - because it is the issuer of its sovereign nonconvertible currency within a flexible rate system. Therefore, the sovereign (in the US, federal) government is not revenue constrained. It does not need to tax or borrow to spend, unlike the states, firms and households, all of which are users of the currency of issue.

Warren Mosler blogs at Center of the Universe.Tom Hickeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08454222098667643650noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53246864840716464.post-22464548537519351552009-12-04T07:03:56.900-08:002009-12-04T07:03:56.900-08:00Why not just take the cap off and lower the rate a...Why not just take the cap off and lower the rate across the board in a revenue neutral way? And then leave it the hell alone. Like most proposals, this one is too clever for its own good.

And how about a livable dole for the unemployed (40% of *measured* unemployment is now long-term) while they look for new jobs? I am watching families grind into destitution with the loss of only one job in a household. Do we always have to line our own pockets when "helping" others?

The American middle class is disappearing quickly.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06852145145315416007noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53246864840716464.post-54694487736051427242009-12-03T17:19:45.450-08:002009-12-03T17:19:45.450-08:00Sounds good.
