Understanding...Thank you for the great compilation. Understanding that you are busy, let me ask some questions:

1. About the discussion on Climate Change impacted Weather event (e.g. the cold winter), the phenomenon I do not understand the most is the so called Atlantic "high pressure" that diverts the jet streams and blocks the warm air feeding to Europe. Where is this "Atlantic high pressure" from? Why does such high pressure not tend to release its air to other places? If it is located in Atlantic Ocean, it should supply warm air to Europe. Pls note that, the high Arctic pressure is the drive to pump its cold air south. I cannot imagine a locked high pressure in Atlantic ocean.

2. About what we shall do... I strongly agree to your proposal in "Stop all Wars".

3. Just to express personal feel, the wind, ocean stream, energy flow on our Earth are so similar to all kinds of circulation system in our body. The sun to our Earth is like the heart to our body. In Chinese medicine and QiGong, they also found that our organs and JingLuo are vibrating in different frequencies higher (faster) than our heart beats. The harmonious flow of material and energy with our heart is the origin of good health. It sounds related to the Earth singing with the sun you've mentioned.

** My name shown in Mandarin pronounces Cheng Chin-Hsien **郑钦贤https://www.blogger.com/profile/10280872622177954459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53246864840716464.post-40341180027676768932010-12-30T08:46:53.698-08:002010-12-30T08:46:53.698-08:00Thanks for the great article, compilation of conve...Thanks for the great article, compilation of convergent and competing theories. Much to like here, as is the case with the books of Brian Fagan, (The Great Warming, The Little Ice Age, The Long Summer, etc.). I live in flyover country, the northern plains of North America. Remnants of dinosaurs and wholly mammoths are often found within miles of each other - creatures representing that vastly different climates existed in the same area over time. If those climate changes were not-man made, it is a stretch to pretend that man is wholly responsible for modern climatic shifts. Likely man's activities have affect, yet to lump all modern climatic shift on to man's activities is to ignore history and is hubris. Earth is a living, breathing planet and organisms change over time.Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05987083576252064695noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53246864840716464.post-16423401674002912512010-12-29T21:47:58.714-08:002010-12-29T21:47:58.714-08:00KInd of recalls how the ancient Ptolemists used to...KInd of recalls how the ancient Ptolemists used to prop up their absurd universe by explaining or rather explaining away all the INCONVENIENT data, doesn't it? Dr. Bill Deagle and I broke the story about Dr. Zangari and the Loop Current in July and August on the NutriMedical Report and on my news blog EUROPE. While there are a number of complicated factors involved in the current weather patterns globally, including solar activity, a long term weakening of the Gulf Stream, etc., the key causative factor in this winters weather patterns is the effective death of the Loop Current. The Loop Current in the Gulf of Mexico is a key part of the Thermohaline Circulation System (TCS). The TCS includes the Florida Current, the Gulf Stream, the North Atlantic Current, etc. Without the heat energy from the Gulf of Mexico, via the Loop Current, the TCS is weaker and is not transmitting as much heat to Ireland, the United Kingdom and northwest Europe as normal. Additionally, the 'river' (TCS) of warm water that normally flows towards Ireland has an effect on the atmosphere for up to 7 miles above the North Atlantic Current. This atmospheric effect acts as a type of steering mechanism on the Jet Stream (which is normally from 5 to 7 miles above the Earth). Without this effect on the Jet Stream, the Jet Stream has been acting 'abnormally'. This caused the high heat and drought in Russia and the high heat and flooding in other parts of Eurasia last summer. The same effect is what is causing the bitter cold weather this winter. Dr. Zangari does not see the Loop Current self-correcting anytime soon. However, I am seeing more and more current activity in the Gulf of Mexico on the satellite data, but the Loop Current itself has not re-established itself. When this may happen, in 2011 or 2012 or whenever is an open question. We simply do not have good historical scientific data on which to make predictions about this.
Earl of StirlingAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53246864840716464.post-27539930882356966552010-12-28T06:22:33.320-08:002010-12-28T06:22:33.320-08:00Authoritarian responses to specific problems are n...Authoritarian responses to specific problems are not facism. As a parent I used my authority and size to stop my kids from running in the road, while allowing them much freedom in other areas. That did not make me a fascist Mom. Using authority to stop pollution of any sort is not facism either. Its sanity. Facism works for corporations. Using authority to regulate corporations and make the operate in alignment with the good of the people is the opposite of facism.

CO2 is acidifying the oceans and killing plankton. The plankton in the oceans make 50% of our Oxygen. Whatever you think about CO2 and global climate change, we need to protect the plankton of our oceans as we need them to keep making O2 - as we are toast without enough O2 in the air. We lived without fossil fuels before, we can live without them again. (and we will have to as they are finite)
http://www.oceanacidification.net/docs/OAA_Factsheet.pdf

Local issues are handled by local governments, state issues by state governments, countrywide issues by the government of each country. The only body we have to regulate planetwide issues - air, oceans, atmosphere is the UN. For these issues they need to act for humankind lest we destroy ourselves. Just because some people are proposing wrong "solutions" such as cap and trade doesn't mean that no attempt should be made to find good solutions for the planet on planetary issues by our one and only planetary body we have.

Last winter in AL was the coldest over a long period that I remember. That is a misstatement and just plays into the hands of right-wing denialists like Matt Drudge and Lord Monbiot (who is an utter fraud). Some parts of the Earth may, and likely will, get warmer; while other parts may get colder - at least temporarily. Climate is a complex thing.
(2) You didn't even mention the corollary to AGCC, which is ocean acidification. The two are intimately linked. Acidification (actually the declining alkalization) of the oceans may end up being more dangerous than AGCC, as calcium-bonding organisms die off as a result. Here is a good primer on this problem:

http://www.ocean-acidification.net/Symposium2008/ResearchPrioritiesReport_OceanHighCO2WorldII.pdf

I have studied these things for years and while this post is helpful, there are many things you don't explain and don't tie together, that help form a more complete picture of the danger we face.

One thing everyone needs to keep in mind is this: It is all about pollution and we are polluting ourselves and this planet to death!!!Stephen Krizhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17577988184226223487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53246864840716464.post-14166829841235910962010-12-28T01:43:44.393-08:002010-12-28T01:43:44.393-08:00I am a "naturalist," is what it was call...I am a "naturalist," is what it was called in the olden days. Meaning, living in balance with nature best we can, in being human. Fairly simply, read the Dao De Ching, it is an ancient teaching in how to. Chinese did not study it because the Europeans went in and the RED CHAMBER, classic story of China getting what we are now receiving - take down. No matter how many times this ILK have "farmed their earth" (see European Zionists), the colonization does not work. Killing and killing to "depopulate," is actually cannibals growing their "GOY" and then, culling. I am greener than green but when I tell my friends I don't believe in man made global warming you would think I was committing blasphemy. You have simply got to look farther back than 100 years. There is no one temperature that the earth stay at. We have been extremely lucky to live in a mild, warm time. Usually the earth kills. The little ice age brought plague and revolution. 535 and it's weather havoc brought down the ancient world. A look at the pacemaker of the ice age shows weather records going back 5000,000 years and an ice age starts every 120,000 years.
