As I wrote yesterday about the CIA program that Panetta recently disclosed to Congress:As a former CIA agent says, the real question is who ordered the CIA to withhold the information from Congress . . .
We now know who ordered the cover-up.
In a nation of laws, Bush, Cheney - or whoever in the White House ordered the cover-up of the operation - would be prosecuted.
It was in fact Cheney.
According to the New York Times:The Central Intelligence Agency withheld information about a secret counterterrorism program from Congress for eight years on direct orders from former Vice President Dick Cheney, the agency’s director, Leon E. Panetta, has told the Senate and House intelligence committees...
The disclosure about Mr. Cheney’s role in the unidentified C.I.A. program comes a day after an inspector general’s report underscored the central role of the former vice president’s office in restricting to a small circle of officials knowledge of the National Security Agency’s program of eavesdropping without warrants, a degree of secrecy that the report concluded had hurt the effectiveness of the counterterrorism surveillance effort.
This is not the first time Cheney has broken the law.
Cheney did it! Gee... what a surprise!
ReplyDeleteWhy is this criminal (Cheney) not in prison?
ReplyDeleteBecause if they send Cheney to jail, they should also send several Government authorities of USA, beggining with G.W.Bush, to jail. It won't happen, so don't make naiv questions.
ReplyDeleteCheney isn't in jail because he's a member of "the club."
ReplyDeleteHolder needs to remember he already pardoned one criminal (Marc Rich) with Scooter Libby playing Rich's attorney. Don't make the same mistake twice. I pray he does his job.
ReplyDeleteTraitor. The US is a democracy. The Vice President ordered the CIA to break with reporting to Congress. That is treason.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reminding us of our responsibility regarding the behavior of this rogue civil servant. Mr. Cheney took an oath of office to serve this country and he has failed on that account as well. He will be prosecuted for his misdeeds soon, I believe.
ReplyDeleteStalin's thugs were given quotas of citizens to haul in for the Gulag. Guilt or innocence were immaterial; evidence was unecessary. Terrorizing the general population was the goal, and for that arresting innocents was beneficial because it spread the message that anyone could be swept up, so everyone needed to keep their mouths shut.
ReplyDeleteNow we have an NSA program of surveillance on every citizen, regardless of whether you are suspected of a crime or not. The goal is, like Stalin's, to frighten the people into silence no matter what crimes the government commits. Cheney is a power-mad psychopath, not unlike Stalin.
B52 'stray' nukes, USMilSpec anthrax, 7/7 London bombings, Madrid train bombings?
ReplyDeleteDNC & RNC have BOTH sold out the country in order to enrich themselves.

prison is too good for that traitorous thug!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly seems like the rule of law does not apply to the powerful elite.
ReplyDeleteStill, with Holder leaning toward investigating the Bush admin for torture, more of this sort of information is going to come out. We have to hope we'll eventually hit a tipping point and Cheney won't be able to hide any more.
It's like Brian Krenz wrote: "It certainly seems like the rule of law does not apply to the powerful elite."
ReplyDeleteWell, if it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck, etc, that it probably is a duck. The reality is that the leaders of the ruling class (the class that owns/controls our economy) are above the law. The laws are for the rest of us.
People--get over your 7th grade civic's class myths about democracy in the US. Elections don't make a democracy. And that also goes for the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the legal system which are all made by this ruling class and mostly for their benefit and to provide the rest of us with pacifiers. When they get in the way of what this class wants to do, they simply ignore or suspend them. The arrogance of the Bush/Cheney administration brought this out in sharp relief.
