Millions of Dead Fish ... Authorities Pretend It Is Wholly Unrelated to BP Oil Spill

As I noted last week:

While the government denies that they are connected with the oil spill, there have been massive fishkills in Louisiana (and see this). Oil can be seen at fishkill sites (and see this), and the EPA has discovered high levels of nickel near the biggest fishkill. There have also been kills of starfish and other sea animals, including whales and dolphins:

And see this.
Here are a couple of headlines on the issue since then courtesy of Florida Oil Spill Law:
My favorite Gulf photographer - Julie Dermansky - just sent me the following photos of the third recent fishkill in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana:

The fishkill shots were taken on September 19th at Bayou Robinson, and the oil shots were taken the same day in Bay Jimmy.

Dermansky notes that the state authorities have subsequently relented, and have conducted at least some minimal testing after all.

  1. This is amazing - and disgusting! Thanks again for the great investigative reporting you do on this blog. Why aren't these stories on the national news? You'd think they were being suppressed or something......

  2. What else does anyone expect? This backstabbing sleazy lying government is no better than Nazi Germany. No they are actually worse: at least Hitler looked out for Germans and wasn't a traitor sellout corporate kissass.

  3. Bemoaning the fact -there are lots of dead fish rolling unceremoniously up on seashores from Galveston - Texas to Bar Harbor - Maine seems to belie the underlying problem, which is variously attributed to corrupted government, corrupted capitalism, corrupted officials, corrupted oil companies, and (lately also) to corrupted science.

I beg to differ. Look in the mirror as you throw your darts and cast your aspersions.

This sort of atrocity has been occurring for centuries. Read the history of environmental disasters.

Ever since a scientifically-enabled Enlightenment-humanity learned to put its newly invigorated reproductive capacity into reckless overdrive -this has been going on, -and getting worse and worse.

If anyone is to blame, IT IS HUMANITY, all of US; the filthy, ignorant, over-sexed, rampantly breeding, forever warring, and completely polluting human beings of HUMANITY.

This is not a question of organizing -anything- better. It is a question of how things appear to us -to NEED the exploitation of our organization.

The moral imperative of life is to live a life that detracts not at all from the lives available to those who will follow us into this world.

It only makes sense, the moral imperative of life. So. How do you measure up?

Look around when you measure yourself against the moral imperative. You are destroying the future. If there were a Hell, you deserve it, -if just for that.

I have yet to hear of a single human being blaming themselves for this immoral trend, the continuous and ongoing degradation of the human experience and everything that sustains the beauty that is the "unimproved" human life.

We THINK we learn. We are sentient; we think. We DO NOT learn. We cite statistics and experts. We DO NOT learn.

Learning implies -getting better informed- about that which matters.

Only the moral imperative matters to the future.

We are not a species of learners so much as we are a species of self-aggrandizing egomaniac-genius-polluters. We think a lot about it. We DO NOT learn -anything-.

And we ARE a species of moaners. We moan because we recognize the stupidity of everyone around us.

Well, -if everyone in your family is a hairy, slack-jawed, knuckle-dragging ignoramus ...

The day humanity is literally-wiped-out by our cretin-ignorance, the whole world will moan in a-completely-understandable unison.

Such stunningly-ignorant-genius is our human hallmark, and such folly as continuously befouls the human-world.

The dead fish are just a sign of OUR IGNORANCE.

The dead fish are the result of countless promises made -to make a better world.

It is impossible for us to make a BETTER world.

    We are not gods.

I liked the world better before all the Enlightenment promises were made.

Put it all back the way it was.

The Enlightenment was a wholly mistaken conception. The pragmatism of David Hume was the work of the Devil. The Rights of Man of Rousseau was a heinous lie. The Common Sense of Paine was a vile deception.

We have become the Romans again, desperately in search of the barbarians who can come here and wreck all that we have become.

All the world is the Colosseum now.

  4. I understand why BP wants this information suppressed being a for profit corporation which by definition has no morals or ethics but our government? How can "Toy Boy" Obama pretend to be our leader while taking his marching orders from a foreign entity? Disgusted? Yes. Surprised? No!

  5. This is really horrible. Thanks again for your reporting. Something is really wrong when there's a news blackout on something like this.

  6. Don has a point...It is up to us to BE THE CHANGE WE WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD!
We The People allowed this to happen..HOW???by not speaking up sooner...by believing our lyingass politicians..by NOT learning from history... by supporting the megalomaniac corporations with our dollars...by allowing these companies to build off shore rigs and NOT checking to see that when a disaster happened BP had a plan that was real.... Protest with your money..I do..Money is all they understand and no profit or less profit makes a difference.
Send BP a e-mail and let them know WHY you are not buying from them..
