The corporate media has almost entirely stopped covering the Gulf oil spill.
Many have tried to say that the effects of the spill are not nearly as bad as feared, and that everything is pretty much cleaned up and back to normal.
But today, it is widely being reported that there are currently massive stretches of weathered oil spotted in the Gulf of Mexico .
And websites like Florida Oil Spill Law (FOSL) have tirelessly been reporting on the Gulf oil spill this whole time.
To give an example of the ongoing crisis in the Gulf, here's a roundup of some of the top stories from FOSL from the past 3 days:
- Boat captain “bleeding from her vagina” — “I’m bleeding from my anus, too… This thing is killing me”
Thank you very much for reporting on this. It is providing and essential service to the public, a service that we unfortunately cannot get anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteYour dedication in reporting is outstanding. Please continue to keep us informed about this particular issue. This is the story of our generation.
I've been following FOSL since June or so and it's impressive and depressing. However the most brutal effects are only being felt now that the tourism battle is over and BP's efforts of propaganda and corexit endless spraying seem to be reaching to the limit of their effectiveness.
ReplyDeleteThere must be a feeling of exhaustion in NOAA and the White House: they have tried to cover it up but it's harming them a lot.
Not sure how upcoming elections may affect but the position of the government is extremely weak, as it has put all the eggs in the rotten basket of the oligarchy.
If Obama is to survive he is already late to make a clear statesman's stand and show who is the leader.
Better late than never but, so far, he has shown he has little more leadership than his pathetic predecessor. He speaks better and projects a more serious image but he is not standing for his own nation in really major domestic issues like this mass poisoning, like the foreclosure fraud or in general making any visible advance in the overall crisis.
And worst of all is that there's no alternative except those fanatic neofascist teabaggers, with no plan whatsoever but just a worrying populist pseudo-radical catechism. They aren't but bunch of clueless thugs ready to be used as cannon fodder by some power-mongering political maverick, supported by the same oligarchy which is behind all these problems.
We have a suspect, but not one an environmentalist would normally suspect.
ReplyDeleteEveryone wants to be a Circle W Cowboy when they get to D.C. any more it would seem.
Clearly there is a social dementia at work in the population.
