Constitutional Expert: Government Was "Trying to Create an Atmosphere of Fear in Which the American People Would Give Them More Power”

Constitutional law expert Jonathan Turley said:

What you saw in this period was, across the board [...] this was the same period when they were ramping up the torture issue and they were ramping up enemy combatants. It was a full-court press on the Constitution. They were trying to create an atmosphere of fear in which the American people would give them more power.

What's he talking about?

Well, as I wrote in 2007:

The Bush Administration issued numerous terror alerts based on scant intelligence in order to rally people around the flag when the administration was suffering in the polls.

Says who?

Well, how about:

Of course, the administration also cried wolf about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, Iran's nuclear capabilities, Al-Qaeda's composition, strength and numbers, and a host of other things.

And recall that former U.S. National Security Adviser (and top foreign policy advisor) Zbigniew Brzezinski told the Senate that the war on terror is a "a mythical historical narrative".

And because false flag actions are the ultimate way to create an atmosphere of fear in which people give the government more power - as documented by examples throughout thousands of years of history - shouldn't we at least ask whether the Bush administration might have also used this ancient and well-known political trick?

  1. Turley must be talking about some other guvmint other than the U.S. guvmint, right? I mean, sheesh, nobody in their freaking right mind would murder their own citizens with airliners and demolitions in tall buildings (operation northwoods, 1962, L.L. Lemnitzer) or shipping anthrax to Leahy and Daschle to coerce them into allowing the 'enabling act' (patriot act) rammed down our throats, right?? I mean, let's get real. Our guvmint would NEVER DO THAT...NOW WOULD IT??????

  2. Seems to me that the Obama people are picking up right where the Bushies left off. Sure it's on the domestic front but the same thing. Rush, rush, rush... If we don't get Porkulas right now the economy will crater. If we don't get health care right now we'll go bankrupt...

  3. Not the entire govt., just the pro-Israel traitors in key positions. Israel orchestrated 9/11 using their fanatical settlers posing as arabs. Their control of the media meant there would be NO discussion of WHO was really to blame. Within a few hours of 9/11, it was so obvious to the media that Bin Laden was to blame, there was no need for an investigation.
It was off to Afghanistan and Iraq to fight for Israel.

  4. Bingo, George. High school social science teachers, such as I, teach the concept, “American Exceptionalism,” a belief that Americans are special, better, with particular emphasis in the greatest honesty and morality within government. The facts you document are a small sample of the evidence that falsifies this belief of American honesty within government. My experience in teaching is that about half of young adults prefer clinging to a falsified belief rather than embracing a life of intellectual integrity and moral courage to follow the facts wherever they may lead.

Hence the contest for the future: will our oligarchs persist in fearful control over the herd that they call “sheeple” in a fascist master-race ontology, or will a critical mass of leaders and the public stand-up for the ideals of the Declaration of Independence and most peoples’ religious/spiritual/philosophical ideals of all people deserving equal love and respect?

The revolution is to use objective, measurable, and independently verifiable facts to demonstrate the crimes of the fascist “leaders.” We isolate those who consciously choose evil by inviting those involved in these crimes for a “Scrooge conversion,” Darth Vader breakthrough, Professor Snape choice against the Dark Lord through a Truth and Reconciliation process whereby people expose the truth and return public assets in exchange for a life of peace without prosecution/punishment. Those who refuse this offer will be prosecuted if crimes are legally discovered and proved in court.

Need a current example of fear-mongering? Ms. Clinton threatened war with Iran again this week. The “justification” is stated as Iran’s “threat” to Israel, the genesis being in a speech of October 2005 from Iran’s President Ahmadinejad that Republican and Democratic “leaders” allege he threatened to “wipe Israel off the map.” SPEND 5 MINUTES TO READ THE SPEECH. Doing so will prove to you beyond any reasonable doubt that American government leaders are lying to you. Ahmadinejad speaks of historical regime change in the former Soviet Union, in Iran with ending the horrific dictatorship of the Shah (that the US imposed in a CIA coup over a democratically elected government in Operation Ajax – look it up), and in Israel for just treatment of the Palestinians. Verify this fact for yourself, please, and then forevermore see American politicians of both parties in the light of threatening a War of Aggression with the most flimsy propaganda that all people with half a brain acknowledge.

And Iran’s “nuclear program” is legal under the Non-Proliferation Treaty. The best way to ensure no nuclear weapons is to follow the treaty and supervise enrichment of uranium. Want more details?
