The Neighbor and the Cop

Two recent conversations show me how widespread the rage is at the elite who have driven our country into a ditch.

The Cop

Last night, I spoke with a cop at my local burrito place. He was furious at the bankers and the politicians who have gotten us into this financial mess, and was hungry for knowledge as to how we got here.

He had no problem showing his anger at the powers-that-be for shelling out trillions for the bankers and the other big boys, and said "when are we going to get our bailout?!"

When we talked about budget cuts, he explained that his local police force had less officers than they should have. But he was really talking to me man-to-man, telling me of his rage for his and his family's situation.

Rather than being a defender of the powers-that-be, the cop seemed like he would have been willing to join in a protest against them.

The Neighbor

My neighbor is extremely pro-business, pro-corporation and anti-labor. She worked for many years for giant corporations, and has largely adopted their mindset. So I would have assumed that she would try to defend the big banks.

However, she is furious at the banks and bankers for their looting and manipulation. She is pissed that the bailouts are going to the big banks, and that the government is just making things worse for the economy.

She sounds more like a populist than an advocate for big business.

The Bottom Line

These two stories illustrate the fact that people from all walks of life, all professions, and all backgrounds are mad-as-hell at what's going on.

Leading trend forecaster Gerald Calente says that Americans are so mad that they will launch another American revolution, starting with revolts against property and school taxes.

  2. Absolutely. I'm in the financial industry - no way do I approve of the bailouts. The common man is getting ripped off. More than that, when these guys throw 2 trillion more into the banks... and the banks fail... and the deposits aren't there for the common man... where will the government get the money to honor FDIC insurance?? By printing more. But do you know the "rub"??? BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT BAILED OUT BANKS - INSTEAD of letting them fail and then taking care of the common man in FDIC insurance.... those $250,000 guarantees aren't going to mean what they mean right now when hyperinflation hits as the result of the printing of ALL THIS MONEY TO GIVE TO BANKS!!!

They're making billionaires out of millionaires, trillionaires out of millionaires... and the common man is getting screwed every which way but loose. They're devaluing the dollar printing this money. THEY ARE LITERALLY ELIMINATING THE MIDDLE CLASS!!!!!!!!!

They are willfully creating the seeds of revolution thinking it's going to end in Marxism or global socialism and totalitarianism in their favor. Newsflash. This is America. Land of the free. Home of the brave. Capitalism will rise in the several states... and that will be that. The left can suffer under their Marxism, hyperinflation, and Great Depression... if they want. I'm really angry about this bailout. I can see, I think, a number of different ways this is all pay for play... the middle class is being eliminated (thrown into the underclass net effect - already in motion - started already but will take a bit to see now)... and the common man is getting the money ripped out of his pocket from every angle - and with it... FREEDOM.

  3. All of this... every last bit of it, was foreseen at the beginning.

Lest we forget, the Founding Fathers had their own problems with banks, paper money/bills of credit, and bank manipulation. It was addressed in the Federalist 44, and by both the Federalists and Antifederalists. We've had several 'federal banks' which were shut down before the Federal Reserve came on the scene.

The system of banking [is] a blot left in all our Constitutions, which, if not covered, will end in their destruction... I sincerely believe that banking institutions are more dangerous than standing armies; and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity... is but swindling futurity on a large scale. – Thomas Jefferson

We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debt, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our calling and our creeds...[we will] have no time to think, no means of calling our miss-managers to account but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers... And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for[ another]... till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery... And the fore-horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression. – Thomas Jefferson

The question then becomes.. what we do from here. We know of no way of judging the future, save by the past. The past shows many patterns, and we follow several at once.

And forgive me for quoting the next, but it was quoted by those same Founding Fathers.

... whenever the Legislators endeavour to take away, and destroy the Property of the People, or to reduce them to Slavery under Arbitrary Power, they put themselves into a state of War with the People, who are thereupon absolved from any farther Obedience ... [Power then] devolves to the People, who have a Right to resume their original Liberty, and, by the Establishment of a new Legislative (such as they shall think fit) provide for their own Safety and Security, which is the end for which they are in Society. – John Locke

  4. This is an good time to consider what would change if our system does crumble. I say let it. Bring on the Depression! Quality of life is not dependent on book balancing, nor the "Game".
Health, nutrition, clothing, shelter, and GOOD RELATIONSHIPS with our neighbors are the criteria of a good life. If the people get back to basics, and remember WE are the bosses of the government, we should be ok! Maybe the few who live in castles will realize that they haven't been doing it right and will downsize. Let's tear the castle down and build houses for many instead of a castle for one!
