Torturing Democracy
Today, several important breakthroughs occurred regarding the U.S. torture program:
- The U.S. Supreme Court today ordered a federal appeals court to reconsider its ruling shielding former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other Pentagon officials from a lawsuit alleging torture by former Gitmo inmates
- And a group announced that it has filed 200 lawsuits against Rumsfeld and US security firms for torture
This comes only days after the Senate Armed Services Committee unanimously concluded that Rumsfeld and other top officials were responsible for the torture program, and that torture doesn't work.
