Obama Is Considering Doing Something Even Bush Didn't Try: "Preventive Detention" of People Who Will Never Get a Trial

The New York Times is reporting :

President Obama told human rights advocates at the White House on Wednesday that he was mulling the need for a “preventive detention” system that would establish a legal basis for the United States to incarcerate terrorism suspects who are deemed a threat to national security but cannot be tried...

“He was almost ruminating over the need for statutory change to the laws so that we can deal with individuals who we can’t charge and detain,” one participant said. “We’ve known this is on the horizon for many years, but we were able to hold it off with George Bush. The idea that we might find ourselves fighting with the Obama administration over these powers is really stunning.”

The other participant said Mr. Obama did not seem to be thinking about preventive detention for terrorism suspects now held at Guantánamo Bay, but rather for those captured in the future, in settings other than a legitimate battlefield like Afghanistan.

  1. Ah, The One isn't what all the lefties thought he was... This man is more dangerous than Bush because he is a true wolf in sheep's clothing with a rabid adoring public behind him.

BTW, there is ample history for holding non-uniform wearing combatants during a "war" and Lincoln clearly had no problem with suspending Habeas Corpus during the War for States Rights. What makes any of us think that our current politicians are any different.

  4. If these developments are in fact leading to a totalitarian society, aren't we like some of the people of New Orleans, who with ample warning, did nothing when Katrina approached? We Americans think that typing a few words in anger will stop what's happening. Remember what the US did in Guatemala. We're screwed, folks. And I voted for Obama.

  5. We tried to tell the left that this guy was a totalitarian socialist dictator wannabe. His true colors are starting to show. (Not a racist remark. I didn't even think about his color when I typed that - but remembered how anyone who objected to Obama was smeared as a "racist" during the election - so thought I better clarify that remark.)

I saw Rachel Maddow (and posted it on my blog) shocked at Obama also. She wouldn't listen, either, during the election. If people would have just listened to us - and checked to see if we had factual basis for our concerns about Obama. This is the tip of the iceberg, imo, of what Obama is capable of.

Of COURSE he was talking about American detention in DHS/FEMA concentration camps - because that is the plan. It's time to unite across America from right to left to stand against totalitarian global socialists. It's time to unite against the Obama "regime" (as he called it).

    United we stand.

  6. We have only 1 peaceble chance www.retakecongress.com we need to take back our country. Congress job is to uphold and defend the constitution against all threats foriegn and domestic., and restraint he president with the chainsof the constitution. Okay I am quoting Jefferson badly but I am too lazy to look it up. Sign on at retakecongress.com and volunteer to help a candidate or be one. We need to get new honest people in congress. It is ironic to think the reason our government was created was to secure our rights.
